Welcome to Passing Perception, a photo blog by me, Steven Morrisroe.
I am 35 and live in Forest Grove, Oregon in the United States.
This site is for sharing my photos, thoughts, and interests with my family, friends, self, and the world.
Comments are encouraged and appreciated.

I turned 35 on June 18th. For my birthday I am gave myself the pride that comes with knowing
I have run half-marathon distance for the first time ever and done a good job.
I will get faster, more fit, and continue to improve. This is a decent start.
Keep in mind I am 100% non-athlete and smoked for 15 years also.
(since I posted this I have started trail running and improved all around)

Please also check out my sister's new blog, A Lotus Grows in Brooklyn
She has recently gone vegan, and that is not easy, especially with all
the crap she gets from people who don't understand why she would care about animals.
I am very proud of her.

New HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) at my business!

(I was just going to put these in my diary, but they take up too much room and slow the page)

Here is something cool, literally. I NOW HAVE AC AT MY BUSINESS!!! I have had no working heating or cooling since I got here. It was old as hell and broken down. It was freezing in here for a very long time. Then for a while it was way to cold for the first half of the day and then too hot later in the day. Now summer is almost here and it was getting just plain hot and uncomfortable. Many thanks to Bill, my landlord, for taking care of it. There were two big old units on the roof from the eighties. They were in terrifyingly bad condition. They had to be replaced. Now there is one dead old one up there, and one good new one. The new single unit is enough to take care of the whole place here. The AC works great and boy am I happy about it. So are customers. They were really starting to complain. The gas meter for the heat will soon be installed so the heat will work also.

I have some photos here of the new unit being lifted by crane to the roof. Kelly (the guy standing way to close to the edge of the roof), if you want any of these photos, take them. post Reminiscing with a Commodore 64

Somebody tried to sell me his Commodore 64 and pile of stuff for it for a long time. I did not want it. Finally one day he bugged me enough and was desperate for gas money. I paid as close as matters to nothing for it all.

It has been sitting around in the back of my business clogging things up and being in the way for a long time. Then I had to lug it all over to the new shop. A few days ago I finally got enough things in order here to take a break and dig it out. I tossed a whole bunch of it and just kept the best stuff. There were boxes and boxes of papers, damaged books, blank discs, and general bs.

I hooked it up and thought I would share my trip down computer memory lane.

post My diary archive, April, 2009

My diary image for April, above, shows part of the reason I have not had time to post lately. Those are just some of the notes, forms, contacts, plans, records, proofs, applications, receipts, etc. from my binder from the last two weeks. I have also done a ton of physical work at the new shop. It has been crazy and stressful and exciting. In case anyone needed further reassurance (my sister’s friends); government IS the enemy of business. Trust me.

post Dennis’ New Subaru with Options Finally Installed and Last Snowboarding of the Season? (for me at least)

Last Saturday my brother invited me to go snowboarding again. It was to be over 70 in the valley and beautiful and warm on the mountain. I REALLY wanted to go, but had to work. Business has been terrible lately and I can’t afford to have the shop closed. Luckily for me my dad agreed to run the business for me. Thank you very much to him for that. I had a great day and a real weekend for once. It was the first time I have had both days of the weekend off this year.

There are not a lot of photos but I decided to make a post instead of putting them in my diary anyway.

post My brother, Dennis, buys his first new car ever!

I drove from Forest Grove, Oregon to Vancouver, Washington on my day off yesterday to go with my brother when he picked up his new car. It was sure more convenient when he lived downstairs and I lived upstairs. I got up early and looked around downtown Portland for a while on the way. I figured Dennis was still at work. If he looks exhausted in these photos it is because he was. He had worked at the hospital all day the day before and then overnight, with almost no sleep. I am glad I don’t have to do that. His schedule changes a lot too. Sometimes he works nights one week and days the next. No thank you.

I was extremely happy for my brother who has had spent the last 15 years making due with just two worn out Honda Civics. He has had constant problems with them. His last one got wrecked and broken into. The damage from both events was never really fixed properly. He had a million other problems with it also. It was way past time for him to have something good to drive.

I am glad I got the chance to go with him to pick up his car. Congratulations, Dennis!
