“How many zeros in a billion?” (edited and expanded by me)

A version of this was forwarded to me, by way of about 3 different relatives. (I have a smart family)
I was just going to re-post it here but got carried away (big surprise) and spent a long time editing,
revising, and adding to it. Those who have seen it before will recognize that.-

——————-

The next time you hear a politician use the word ‘billion’ in a casual manner,
think about what they are saying and whether you want them spending YOUR money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency
did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases.

A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

D.
A billion days ago no-one walked the earth on two feet.

E.
A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

With those thoughts still fresh in your mind let’s take a look at New Orleans.
It’s amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu (D) is presently asking Congress for 250 BILLION DOLLARS
to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number… what does it mean?

A.
Well… if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman, and child)you each get $516,528.

B.
Or… if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C.
Or if you are a family of four your family gets $2,066,012.

Washington, D.C., WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH OUR MONEY?

Yes, a billion is an enormous number, especially when talking about our dollars.
With that in mind…

Obama’s 2011 Budget Proposal?,

3.69 TRILLION

TRILLION. I guess there will have to be a whole other post about that number…sigh

One quick example:
One trillion dollar bills laid end-to-end would stretch from
the earth … to the sun … and back … with a lot of miles to spare.

Moving on…

That is just the beginning. He and his co-conspirators have MUCH more planned.
Don’t get me wrong, Republicans are guilty too, which is why I vote Libertarian.
The Democrats however intend to take the huge overspending and
grow it to the point that capitalism and the free market cease to function.
Then of course they can point to the catastrophe as reason to abandon
the Constitution entirely and take over completely.

No more individual rights and self determination, just government and serfs.

serf
–noun
1.a person in a condition of servitude, required to render services to a lord,
commonly attached to the lord’s land and transferred with it from one owner to another.
2.a slave.

Where does that astronomical amount of money come from our government spends?
Here are some sources. There are some state taxes thrown in here but you get the idea.

Obviously that is only a partial list and new taxes are added constantly.

We left British rule to avoid so many taxes. The difference here is that
WE CAN VOTE THE MEN AND WOMEN RESPONSIBLE OUT OF OFFICE.
The problem we have now is apathy.

None of those taxes existed 100 years ago
and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt.
We had the largest middle class in the world,
and kids were raised by family, not day care.

What happened?

The same thing that always happens in societies if the
population lets their representatives think they are rulers.
Those in office funnel the productivity of the people to pay themselves,
build their bureaucracy, and sustain the cycle.

Stay submissive, keep quiet, look away, and your hard earned freedoms,
and money will continue to disappear at an ever faster rate.
Keep quiet long enough and our republic will become just what
early Americans fled Europe to escape, and founded this country to avoid.

Get involved. Speak up. VOTE. Educate yourself. See what you can do
to keep history from repeating itself. This time we have no new continent
to move to. Antarctica is vacant but personally, I don’t like the cold.

Save the country we have so we don’t become another tragic period in history.

Thank you for your time.
The fact that you read this far down the page shows that you care.
That is a start…

Why thank you. Whoever did the original had a good start but it had a lot of errors and needed some work. I changed a lot of it and added many more taxes and commentary. Thanks for looking.
