Welcome to another blog by Steven Morrisroe, age 37, living in Forest Grove, Oregon, USA. stevepassingperception@gmail.com

I also still have my original blog, Passing Perception, where I put posts with large numbers of photos. There I also create a post for each month of miscellaneous pictures, including everything that comes from the daily posts here, plus many more never shown before.

“The Great Ruler”

I heard this recently and have been meaning to post it.
Rarely is so much truth told by a politician all at once.
It sums up Obama quite well. Vote Libertarian.

ORRC Hagg Lake trail training run

This runs was a total adventure because the trail was muddy, snowy, had standing water, and many downed trees due to recent warm snows, heavy rain, and high winds. Even with those conditions, I still ran farther than I ever have in my life. I was one of just a few people to run extra beyond the basic 14 mile lake lap.

Standing water

Forest Grove is still pretty wet. That is not the Tualatin River. It is just little Gales Creek. All those large areas of water don’t belong there at all. There has been a long break, but heavy rain is returning tomorrow.

New case light, plus

The Post Office managed to not fold this light in half and shatter it into a thousand pieces like they did the last one. While I was at it I threw in a few extra photos of what is really the front half of my living room.

Gold, Silver

The kinds of things that come through here. These are from the past couple hours. The proof coins are gold.

Replacing distributor cap and rotor on my Durango

I am continuing to refresh my 2003 Dodge Durango. It is a solid suv that runs well, but does have 74,000 miles on it. It is time for good basic maintenance. I have already done the plugs, installed different air intake, and put new upgraded shocks on it. It keeps getting better and better. A cat-back exhaust will be soon.

Here are the new parts.

You must know which wires came from which position so you can put them back in correct order. Tape is easy and removable.

You can see there is a number 1 there at the 8 0′clock position. I just start numbering from there and go around. It is not like changing plug wires. One end will stay connected to the plug, so all you need to know is order around the distributor, not the actual cylinder number.

There is the same number in the same position on the old one.

Old rotor, looking old.

Inside the old cap.

Inside the new cap.

The distributor cap is only held down by two philips head screws. You cannot put the cap on the wrong way because one side has a round piece by the screw and the other side is square. It is a bit of a pain because a long screwdriver is to long and hits up above, and a stubby is too short. I just used a long at an angle and luckily the screws are not very tight.

There it is all back together.

And yes, it started and ran properly after that, and it was smooooth. I also want to clean the injectors.

Birds on wires

I am the kind of person who sees that by the busy freeway and drives all the way down and around to a gravel lot below to take get the image to share, then gets back on the road to continue to where I was going. Stop and smell the roses and all that.

“Ignorant people, please stay home on Election Day”

That is THE most wonderful political story title I have ever heard. I love Stossel.  He is right. If you are totally ignorant about politics, economics, current events, history, and candidates’ positions and records, you have no business voting. None. You will make things even worse. I want to vote Stossel for President.

But the snow was not really fun, at all.

Slush. Heavy damp snow had fallen all night, and then in the morning the temp rose quickly and it rained heavily on it. The weight crushed and broke everything and the snow became awful deep icewater. By the time I got a shower and went out to enjoy the snow, it was obvious it was not happening. Comcast was working on downed lines in front of my house, a tree ripped out in back, and the street was a flood.

I went to go for a drive to look around, but realized I left the open sign on. I stopped in front to go turn it off.

Getting back to my truck I stepped in something similar to this, but more hidden below snow. Both feet soaked and fron up to ankles and I hadn’t even left yet. My feet would stay that way for hours to come.

Branches, branches everywhere and the occasional tree. The news said Forest Grove had more damage than anywhere in Washington County.

On the right there is my friend, Mindy. She weighs under a hundred pounds and works hard at tough jobs. She works for the city here. I have much respect for her. She is also raising her son.

Check out the squashed bus stop.

Cable lines. I hope.

Pacific was plowed at least. The side streets were not good.

My poor little old tree.

My neighbor’s tree. Notice how it came up at the roots right under the fence. Today hid gutters were being worked on. They were damaged too, though not by that tree. Now our basements are flooded on top of it, and I didn’t so much as get to make a snowman in my big backyard.

Sigh. Then it was back to work, where there was no hope of customers unless I could clear the paths and a place to park. Oeople will walk in snow, but not that slush. You could not walk five feet without being soaked and miserable. I needed to make money, so out I went.

That stuff was heavy to shovel. Mostly water.

I have been in this neighborhood before and know the deal. I could never get rid of the huge pools of icewater unless I could get the storm drain unclogged and paths along the curbs for the water to flow. It was all buried and stuck, so I got in my truck and drove up and down the street along the curb in both directions, including up the hill to my neighbors’ burger place, to clear the snow and blockages. That save lots of shoveling and allowed things to flood into the drain. it still took a lot of unclogging by hand, and since I don’t have waterproof boots, it was COLD.

Cleared up.

Ugly. Not the winter wonderland I had pictured all night. I wanted to make a giant snowball back there. Check out the deep water in my footprints. Frigid awfulness and mud underneath.

My neighbors’ broken shrubs.

That tree at Pacific University you previously saw them cutting branches off? There it is now. Was.

Snow while it looked mostly good

After two days straight of constant snowfall, at above freezing temperature, that would not stick, it finally did. It snowed most of the night, and at 4 in the morning, and then first light, it looked pretty good, at least from indoors.

I was very excited because I love snow and hadn’t really had it here for a couple years.

From my bedroom window.

Out front

My business used to be in that building next door before Cornelius.

My mysterious neighbors and camper shell that has been there since 1985. Or so.

I like this photo very much. It is my office window.

Morning coming. Notice all the dimples in the snow. Bad sign.

My Durango was safe under the only tree here made for snow. Where I usually park out in back the apple tree fell in my spot.

Hooray, I thought. Snow morning. Time to explore and play.

Special election

It is exciting when I get to vote for something. I am not allowed in primaries because I am registered Libertarian. Goodbye, Wu.
